I recently bought a mint condition mk1 for roughly 400, and I love it, however I did not expect the native software to be (as far as I am aware) the only way to use it as a plug-in with Logic. Certainly not if it costs anything additional. I had incorrectly assumed that the free/factory editor and the native plug-in were identical, the former being only the companion for the hardware, and could be used as a VST plug-in as long as the keyboard is connected, and that the native option was simply a standalone version that could be used with or without the hardware. I did not consider the possibility that the only way to control the unit thru logic would be another 50 bones. Having the hardware should save me 100%, not 75%. I don’t care how much I’m saving by getting 75% off retail, you’re still making me spend 100% more than I should have to lol.. All things considered, it is absolutely among my favorite pieces of gear, right after the polybrute. Not nearly in the same universe as far as build quality, but as far as how much I enjoy it, definitely. Outstanding video as anticipated, thank you!

THANK YOU! I just got a Moog Minitaur today and once I figured out how to use it with my MIDI keyboard I thought, "do I really have to pass this through the computer?" Glad to know that not only are there much more portable solutions out there but also that the basic logic of working with MIDI devices is much simpler than it seems.

It's Great that they have the SEM filter on it. You should be able to make some signature OBX sounds.

Wow! I really wasn’t that interested in this until I saw Loopop Phase (i already have a kp-1 & kp-3). Cool stuff! Question: Is there any mode where the pad itself *only* affects the effect currently in “focus” with the FX buttons? I’d like to load up 2-4 slots with just Loopop Phase, then use the pad to feed audio into only one slot each at a time. Is that possible?

I was considering rebuying my beloved ob6 for months... but this is much much better in almost every aspect the money basically levitated out of my pocket 😢 oscillator mixing knobs and analog VCAs be damned, more modulation options, zero cross FM, better fx and oscillators FTW

This has existed for a century or more with "tracking organs" and I wondered back in the 80s why synths don't have it. This would also help make the best Hammond organ simulations, which actually have 8 individual contact strips per key that close one by one as you press a key, each turning on a separate drawbar's tone.

You could buy two of these and have 88 keys total and bi-timbrality for 600 less than an OB-6. I really like that the filter is state variable and based on the OB-6.

I think that at the price of just about any Pro-wind instrument 🎷 particularly thinking of the Saxophone, Arturia has finally gave it a run for the money. In My mind the Saxophone is like the ultimate in expression for both the subtle and the futile; which as great as synthesis is, the ability to have an A to Z non-linear approach was just not happening. Now, with this I SEE iT HAPPENING, where you’re not trying to re-invent the wheel 🛞 for some bit-of the shadow of emulation, and again, I’m not referring to matching sounds but the abilities of expressiveness!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
